1975

The Gear Centre

On March 18, 1975, Edmonton Gear Centre Ltd. first opened to specialize in the powertrain unit repair service and parts ranging from light duty vehicles to heavy trucks from owner operators to fleet and heavy equipment customers. Now branded The Gear Centre, the company has since expanded to eleven locations across Canada.

1980

Pat’s Driveline

Pat’s Driveline Specialty & Machine Ltd. opened its first branch in Edmonton North to provide driveshaft parts and repair service for all types of automotive, heavy truck, agricultural, off-highway and industrial applications. Over 45 years, the company now has twelve locations nationwide, all capable to provide customers full service including dynamic shaft balancing, custom design and maintenance.

1984

Hydra-Steer

Hydra-Steer was first established in Edmonton to service all power steering and hydraulic needs for our automotive, heavy truck, agricultural and industrial customers. Product offerings include new steering pumps, motors, cylinders, and remanufactured steering gears, all fully tested to meet or exceed OEM standards. Branches in Calgary and Surrey have also been established with most Gear Centre branches being authorized distributors of the full power steering product line.

1990

Discount Truck Parts

Discount Truck Parts Ltd. opened in Edmonton to provide customers with high quality heavy truck parts at discounted prices. Originally a truck-wrecker company, the product offerings have evolved to fuel and hydraulic tanks, both new and custom designed, along with frame rails, bracket kits, and banjo housings.

1993

Quality Gear

Quality Gear was established in 1993, to focus on the manufacturing and procurement of transmission and differential parts, driveline components, truck hydraulics, and steering pumps to service the aftermarket.

1994

Canada-Wide Parts Distributors Ltd.

Canada-Wide Parts Distributors Ltd. concentrated on the wholesale distribution of drivetrain units and products throughout Canada. The mission was to drive volume at competitive pricing to fleet operators and repair shop customers to purchase replacement units.

1996

The Gear Centre Remanufacturing Facility

The Gear Centre expanded to have a full remanufacturing facility to increase the volume of ready-to-exchange units and efficiency of rebuilding transmissions, differentials, and transfer cases to deliver to the growing number of branches across Alberta. In doing so, Discount Truck Parts was downsized to have the building and machinery set up for Reman.

1997

The Gear Centre Off-Highway Division

The Gear Centre Off-Highway opened as its own division in Calgary and Edmonton to fulfill the greater demand of remanufactured units, parts and service capabilities for the construction, industrial, agricultural, mobile equipment and forestry industries. Additional locations were opened in Surrey and Mississauga.

1998

The Product Distribution Centre

The Product Distribution Centre (PDC) was opened in Edmonton North to conduct the operations of the Purchasing & Pricing, Customs & Credit, Executive Office, Maintenance & Property Management, and Sales & Marketing departments. The PDC warehouse is responsible for the shipping and receiving of our product lines to our retail and wholesale branches.

2014

Mississauga & Moncton

The Gear Centre Off-Highway, Pat’s Driveline, and Canada-Wide Parts moved, and further enlarged its operations, to a brand-new facility in Pacific Circle in Mississauga. In addition, The Gear Centre Truck & Auto was opened there as well. The multi-bay service shop has the added capacity to accommodate all types of trucks, commercial vehicles and off-highway equipment.

In addition to The Gear Centre’s eastern Canada expansion, a branch was established in Moncton, NB. It first began as an inventory warehouse in the nearby town of Shediac, before moving into a leased building to offer full-service repair and remanufacturing capabilities.
